About Us

Gulf South Laser

I discovered laser cleaning technology in 2013 and was immediately impressed by its ability to restore surfaces with precision and without damage. Although still emerging at the time, its potential was clear.

Over the next decade, I researched manufacturers and systems worldwide, ultimately choosing a dependable, American-made solution from Clean Laser Technologies in Jackson, Mississippi, known for its performance and build quality.

With more than 30 years of experience in the marine industry, I’ve seen the limitations of traditional surface preparation methods. Laser cleaning offers a cleaner, safer, more precise, and more efficient alternative.

Today, I’m proud to provide this advanced technology to clients seeking a better approach to surface restoration and maintenance.

Understanding Laser Technology

Leveraging the power of laser beams, laser cleaning is the innovative process of eliminating undesired substances from a solid surface. The laser beam’s energy absorption prompts the unwanted material to either transform into a gas and dissipate or be dislodged from the surface due to the pressure of the interaction. Notably, the underlying surface remains unaffected and is restored to its original condition.

Beyond its exceptional cleaning prowess, laser technology boasts additional advantages: quick setup, safety, absence of chemicals, quiet operation, and efficiency. With no aftermath mess to contend with, it offers efficient operating costs, minimal maintenance requirements, and an environmentally friendly solution!

Laser Vs Sandblasting

Laser Cleaning (Rust Removal)

Laser cleaning removes rust, paint, and contaminants with a focused beam—no abrasive media needed. It’s highly precise, helping clean the surface while keeping the base metal intact.

Best for:

  • Precision rust removal on parts, edges, weld areas
  • Minimal mess (no sand/grit to clean up)
  • Lower consumables and cleaner operation
  • Great for thin metal and delicate components

Sandblasting (Abrasive Blasting)

Sandblasting removes rust and coatings by blasting abrasive media at high pressure. It’s a proven method for large, heavy-duty surfaces, especially when you want a rough profile for paint adhesion.

Best for:

  • Fast removal on large steel and heavy corrosion
  • Creating surface profile for coatings/painting
  • Outdoor/industrial jobs where dust containment is manageable
  • Thick coatings and tough surfaces

Pulsed Vs Continuous Wave

Pulsed Laser

Pulsed lasers remove rust and coatings using short, high-energy bursts for precise cleaning with minimal heat. This helps protect the base metal while delivering controlled, consistent results.

  • High peak power in short pulses
  • Minimal heat input (reduced heat marks/warping)
  • Excellent control for selective rust/paint removal
  • Ideal for delicate parts, thin metals, detailed cleaning

Continuous-Wave (CW) Laser

CW lasers produce a steady, continuous beam designed for strong, consistent heating. They excel in industrial processing where deep energy delivery is needed.

  • Constant beam output for stable processing
  • Higher continuous heat input (larger heat-affected zone)
  • Best for cutting, welding, cladding applications
  • Less ideal for precision cleaning where heat must be minimized

Since discovering laser cleaning in 2013, I’ve chosen a trusted American-made system and now proudly offer a cleaner, safer, and more precise alternative to traditional surface preparation.
